Prevention and treatment of thromboembolism, treatment of embolic atrial fibrillation, and adjunctive treatment of coronary artery occlusion
This medication is used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It also aids in the treatment of embolic atrial fibrillation and can be used as an adjunct for coronary artery occlusion. It is primarily effective in improving blood circulation and inhibiting thrombus formation, playing a significant role in the management of cardiovascular diseases.
Individual requirements vary according to PT/INR and specific genotypes of the CYP2C9 and VKORC1 genes (see 4. General Precautions under Precautions for Use). The usual initial dose is 2~5 mg of warfarin sodium per day, and the maintenance dose is 2~10 mg per day. Lower doses are recommended for elderly or debilitated patients.
This medication prevents blood from coagulating and thrombus formation. However, it should not be used by patients at high risk for bleeding or those with bleeding disorders. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function and those with severe hypertension may also be at risk when taking this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take it, as it can harm the fetus. The dosage of this medication may vary based on differences in specific genes, so regular blood coagulation tests are necessary. If bleeding symptoms occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. There are many drug interactions, and depending on the medicines taken concurrently, the effect of this medication may be enhanced or weakened, so all current medications should be disclosed to healthcare providers. Additionally, foods rich in vitamin K or alcohol may influence the effect of this medication, so caution is required. It is advisable to avoid activities that may result in trauma during exercise or activities. Side effects may include bleeding, skin necrosis, and liver dysfunction, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. Elderly patients or children may respond differently to this medication and require special caution. In case of overdose, severe bleeding may occur, requiring vitamin K administration or emergency treatment. Therefore, it is crucial to adjust the dosage under regular check-ups and as directed by healthcare providers while taking this medication.
