Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (for type 2 diabetes patients)
This medication is used to treat hypertension. It is especially effective in patients with type 2 diabetes who also develop kidney disease. It helps control blood pressure, thereby protecting cardiovascular and kidney function. Therefore, it is useful for the treatment of hypertension and related kidney complications.
For hypertension, 50 mg orally once daily is recommended. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, it can be divided into two doses daily or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For kidney disease in type 2 diabetes patients with hypertension, it is 50 mg once daily, and can be increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure. This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain conditions, including those allergic to this drug or its components, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, patients with severe liver impairment, patients with hereditary angioedema, and patients with primary hyperaldosteronism. Additionally, careful administration is required for certain patients, including the elderly, those with hyperkalemia, patients with liver impairment, patients with heart valve diseases, patients with decreased blood volume, and patients with severely reduced kidney function. Generally, this medication is well-tolerated; however, side effects such as muscle cramps, back pain, dizziness, and upper respiratory infections may occur, and rarely, serious side effects such as angioedema, liver function abnormalities, renal failure, or hypotension have been reported. Particular caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery due to dizziness or orthostatic hypotension from blood pressure-lowering effects. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is advised when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), lithium, etc., and consultation with a physician is necessary. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, especially during pregnancy, due to potential risks to the fetus, and should consult a doctor to make a decision on whether to take it. In pediatric patients, it should not be administered to those under 6 years or with severely reduced kidney function. In cases of overdose, hypotension and bradycardia may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. During the course of treatment, regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels is necessary, and consultation with a physician should occur if any abnormal symptoms arise. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided.
