Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
1. Hypertension Most patients receive 4 milligrams once daily. It may take up to 4 weeks to achieve the optimal effect of this medicine. After 4 weeks of treatment, the dose may be increased to up to 8 milligrams once daily, depending on the patient's response. The maximum recommended daily dose is 8 milligrams. This medicine may be used as monotherapy for blood pressure control. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy, this medicine may be used in combination with a diuretic, beta-blocker, calcium antagonist, or ACE inhibitor. 2. Urinary retention and voiding disorders due to benign prostatic hyperplasia Most patients receive 4 milligrams once daily. The dose may be increased to up to 8 milligrams once daily, depending on the patient's response. The maximum recommended daily dose is 8 milligrams. It may be used in patients with prostatic hyperplasia regardless of whether they have hypertension. In patients with both hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia, both conditions may be treated simultaneously with monotherapy. As with other medicines of this type, monitoring of the patient is recommended at the start of treatment. There are no studies demonstrating whether increasing the dose to 8 milligrams increases efficacy. May be administered with or without food. Swallow whole with plenty of water. Older adults : The usual dose is recommended. Patients with renal impairment : The pharmacokinetics of doxazosin are unchanged in patients with insufficient renal function, and there is no evidence that doxazosin worsens renal failure. Therefore, the usual dose may be administered to these patients. There are no specific restrictions on the duration of use.
