Improvement of hypertension and diabetic nephropathy
This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension. It is especially helpful in preventing or treating kidney disease caused by hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it plays an important role not only in managing hypertension but also in protecting kidney health in diabetic patients.
For the treatment of hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose is 50 mg of Losartan Potassium taken orally once a day. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, it can be divided into twice a day or increased up to a maximum of 100 mg once a day. In patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension with kidney disease, the usual dose is 50 mg once a day, which can be increased to 100 mg based on blood pressure. For children and adolescents aged 6 years and older with a weight between 20 kg and less than 50 kg, the recommended dosage is 25 mg orally once a day, with a maximum increase to 50 mg. For those weighing 50 kg or more, the dosage is 1 day 1.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, particularly during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This medication should not be used by patients with certain allergies, pregnant women or women who might be pregnant, patients with severe liver disease, or patients with certain hereditary diseases. Elderly patients, those with impaired kidney function, patients at high risk of sudden blood pressure drops, and patients with certain heart diseases should use this medication cautiously and under the guidance of a doctor. This medication may cause various side effects, with common symptoms including dizziness, muscle cramps, back pain, and upper respiratory infections. Rarely, serious allergic reactions, angioedema, liver function abnormalities, and renal failure may occur, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary if unusual symptoms arise. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it's crucial to inform healthcare providers about any other medications being taken, particularly avoiding concurrent use with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements. During treatment, regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels in the blood is recommended for any abnormalities. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and it is preferable to discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. An overdose may result in symptoms such as hypotension or bradycardia; therefore, the prescribed dosage must be strictly adhered to, and the hospital should be visited immediately in case of unusual symptoms. While taking this medication, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of accidents from dizziness or other side effects. Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema (laryngeal or glottic swelling causing airway obstruction, swelling of face/lips/throat/tongue), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with fever, blisters, peeling skin, oral/ocular mucosal pain, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), profound lethargy.

This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it must be stored in a tightly closed container. It is recommended to keep it in a dry place at a temperature between 15 to 30 degrees Celsius, avoiding extremes of heat or cold.
