This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

As Lercanidipine Hydrochloride, 5 to 10 mg once daily, taken orally at least 15 minutes before meals. The dosage may be increased up to 20 mg depending on the patient's symptoms. Dosage adjustments should be made gradually, as it takes about 2 weeks to observe clear effects on blood pressure. For elderly patients or those with liver or kidney impairment, dosage adjustments and caution are necessary.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to individuals with allergies to this drug or similar medications, pregnant or nursing women, patients with heart problems, individuals with severe liver or kidney disease, patients who have recently suffered a myocardial infarction, and children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Additionally, it should be administered with caution to patients with pacemaker issues, left ventricular dysfunction, ischemic heart disease, mild to moderate liver or kidney impairment, a history of angina pectoris, individuals who regularly consume alcohol, and the elderly. When taking this medication, symptoms such as facial flushing, swelling of hands and feet, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, indigestion, vomiting, and liver dysfunction may occur. If symptoms are severe, consult a physician. Abruptly discontinuing the medication may worsen symptoms, so it should be tapered off gradually while monitoring the condition. Additionally, be cautious when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of dizziness or drowsiness. This medication is metabolized by the liver, so the effects of the drug may change when taken with certain medications. If you are taking other drugs, be sure to inform your physician or pharmacist. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers should not take this medication, nor should it be used in children and adolescents. Older adults should exercise particular caution when starting this medication, and in the case of overdose, serious hypotension and cardiac issues may occur, necessitating immediate medical treatment. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in its original container.

Severe allergic reactions (hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness), severe skin adverse reactions (severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/eye mucosal pain), respiratory problems (shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever), liver issues (yellowing of skin or eyes, extreme lethargy), serious neurological symptoms (sudden and severe headaches, seizures)

Mild side effects

Facial flushing, peripheral edema, palpitations, tachycardia, headache, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, neurasthenia, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, increase in serum aminotransferase levels, polyuria, frequent urination, gingival hyperplasia, rash, myalgia, tremors, insomnia, dry mouth, hand numbness, cough, abdominal bloating, erectile dysfunction, hypotension, arrhythmia, skin tingling, premature contractions, tongue stiffness, increased ventricular premature beats, stomach.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. It is recommended to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
