Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is effective for the treatment of hypertension, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes who have accompanying kidney complications. It helps stabilize blood pressure, preventing deterioration of kidney function and improving overall health.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals but is recommended to be taken at the same time every day. 1. Hypertension Adults are recommended to take 50 mg of Losartan Potassium orally once daily. If therapeutic effects are insufficient, the dose may be divided and taken twice daily, or increased to 100 mg once daily. 2. Kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes Typically, 50 mg once daily is recommended,
Children and adolescents aged 6 and older (1) Weight 20 kg to less than 50 kg: once daily 25 mg, may increase to 50 mg based on blood pressure response (2) Weight 50 kg or more: once daily
This medication can cause severe harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, and should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Do not administer this medication to patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, hereditary angioedema, or a history of angioedema, and certain genetically intolerant patients to lactose. Elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia, liver dysfunction, valvular heart disease or cardiovascular diseases, patients with reduced blood volume, and patients with renal artery stenosis should use this medication with caution, and blood pressure and kidney function should be monitored regularly. This medication is generally well tolerated, but side effects such as dizziness, muscle cramps, back pain, upper respiratory infection, and nasal congestion may occur. Rarely, severe adverse reactions such as angioedema, hepatitis, myalgia, and hyperkalemia have been reported, so if symptoms occur, notify healthcare professionals immediately. This medication lowers blood pressure; therefore, when starting treatment or increasing the dose, there is a risk of hypotension or symptoms of syncope, requiring caution. Drug interactions may occur when taken with other antihypertensives, potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and lithium, so consult with the prescribing physician. Taking this medication during pregnancy can pose risks of hypotension, kidney dysfunction, and cranial formation anomalies to the fetus, so treatment should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed, and it is not recommended during breastfeeding. Do not administer this medication to children under 6 years of age or those with severe kidney dysfunction. During treatment with this medication, caution is advised for driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. In the case of overdose, severe hypotension or bradycardia may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. Store this medication out of reach of children, and do not transfer it to another container, as this may compromise its quality.
