This medicine is used to improve symptoms caused by atherosclerosis in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral artery disease. Additionally, it alleviates atherosclerotic symptoms such as death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular events in adult patients suffering from acute coronary syndrome or those who have undergone related procedures (PCI, CABG). In patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors where the use of vitamin K antagonists is not suitable and the risk of bleeding is low, it helps to reduce the risk of stroke and thrombosis. This drug effectively reduces the risk of atherosclerosis and thrombosis associated with various cardiovascular diseases, thereby improving patient health.

How to take

Adult dose

For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral artery disease, administer 75 mg orally once daily as clopidogrel. In patients with acute coronary syndrome, initiate with a loading dose of 300 mg orally once daily on the day of treatment initiation, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg orally daily. At this time, aspirin 75 to 325 mg should be administered orally once daily in conjunction. For atrial fibrillation patients, administer 75 mg orally once daily.

Individuals with genetically reduced function of a specific enzyme, CYP2C19, may experience reduced efficacy of this drug; in such cases, alternative treatment options should be considered. This drug may increase the risk of bleeding; therefore, it should not be used in patients with active bleeding or high bleeding risk, those with severe liver impairment, nursing mothers, and patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance. Patients at high risk for bleeding or those scheduled for surgery should stop or use this drug with caution, and extra care should be taken when combining it with other bleeding risk medications. While on this medication, patients should immediately consult their physician if any bleeding symptoms or adverse reactions occur, and regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor bleeding risks. Furthermore, this drug may interact with other medications, so caution is advised particularly when used with drugs that carry a risk of bleeding, specific antibiotics, gastric medications, antidepressants, morphine, etc. During pregnancy, it should only be used if necessary considering the potential effects on the fetus, and nursing women should carefully decide about stopping breastfeeding or the medication as the drug may be transmitted through breast milk. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function may also have increased bleeding risk, requiring dose adjustments and careful monitoring of their condition. In case of overdose, bleeding time may be prolonged, and bleeding may occur, so immediate notification to healthcare providers is required, and platelet transfusion or other treatments may be necessary.
