Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension and helps prevent and manage kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is effective in reducing complications caused by hypertension and protecting kidney function. Therefore, it is used to improve hypertension and related kidney diseases.
As Losartan Potassium, administer 50 mg orally once daily. The maximum antihypertensive effect appears 3 to 6 weeks after starting treatment. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the same dosage can be divided into two doses per day, or the dosage can be increased to 100 mg once daily if necessary. For kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, the usual dosage is 50 mg once daily, and can be increased to 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure.
For children and adolescents aged 6 years and over, weighing between 20 kg and less than 50 kg, administer 25 mg once daily, with a maximum increase to 50 mg once daily. For children and adolescents weighing 50 kg or more,
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially when taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. If pregnancy is confirmed, the use of this medication should be discontinued as soon as possible. This medication should not be administered to patients with severe liver dysfunction or certain genetic diseases, and caution is required for patients with a history of angioedema. Elderly patients or those with decreased kidney function, and patients with hyperkalemia should use this medication cautiously and should be monitored to ensure that blood pressure does not drop too low. During the use of this medication, it is important to regularly check blood pressure, kidney function, and blood potassium levels to ensure there are no abnormalities. Additionally, this medication can increase blood potassium levels to dangerous levels when taken with certain diuretics or potassium supplements, so such medications should not be taken without consulting a doctor. This medication may rarely cause side effects such as angioedema, liver function abnormalities, muscle pain, low blood pressure, and renal failure, so if symptoms appear, immediate notification to medical personnel is required. Persistent cough may occur, but it is relatively less common compared to other antihypertensive medications. Moreover, this medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women; if breastfeeding, the drug should be avoided or breastfeeding should be discontinued. It is advisable to avoid grapefruit juice while taking this medication, and since there may be interactions with other medications, one should consult medical personnel regarding all medications being taken. Lastly, keep this medication out of the reach of children, and be careful not to transfer it into other containers.
