This medication is used for various endocrine disorders, including chronic and acute adrenal insufficiency, and malignant exophthalmos associated with thyroid disorders. Additionally, it serves as a short-term adjunct therapy to prevent acute progression of rheumatic disorders and helps in the treatment of chronic rheumatic arthritis and rheumatic fever. It is effective for connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, polymyositis, and scleroderma. In cases of edematous diseases, it is used for nephrotic syndrome, and for allergic diseases, it is indicated for bronchial asthma, allergies, and serum sickness. Furthermore, it applies to various conditions including severe infections, blood disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, liver diseases, respiratory diseases, and central nervous system diseases, and is widely used in dermatological, ophthalmological, and otolaryngological conditions. Overall, this medication is effective in treating various inflammatory and immune-related diseases and alleviating symptoms.
Administer as hydrocortisone, 10 to 120 mg per day, divided into 1 to 4 oral doses. Adjust dosage appropriately according to age and condition.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, it should not be used in individuals with allergies to this medication or its components, infections where there are no appropriate antimicrobial agents, systemic fungal infections, patients with herpes simplex, herpes zoster, or chickenpox. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so it should not be taken by individuals with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Caution is especially required when administering this medication to some patients. Patients with tuberculosis or herpetic keratitis, cataracts, hypertension, electrolyte imbalances, and thrombosis should be administered this drug carefully. Caution is also necessary for patients with peptic ulcers, mental disorders, osteoporosis, glaucoma, myocardial infarction. Patients with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar levels, and those with reduced kidney or liver function, hypothyroidism, elderly patients should also exercise caution. This medication may cause various side effects, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Infections may worsen, and symptoms such as elevated blood pressure, fluid retention, osteoporosis, peptic ulcers, psychiatric disorders, skin changes, visual disturbances may occur. Long-term use of this medication may pose risks if stopped suddenly, so it should be gradually reduced according to the physician's instructions, and dosage may need to be increased under stressful situations. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is essential to consult with a doctor or pharmacist regarding any concurrent medications. Caution is particularly needed when co-administered with heart-related medications, anticoagulants, diuretics, antibiotics, anticonvulsants. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult with a doctor before using this medication due to potential effects on the fetus or newborn, and should avoid taking it during breastfeeding. Pediatric or adolescent patients may experience side effects such as growth delay, so it should be administered carefully at the minimum dose, and cardiac function monitoring is necessary.
