This medication is used to treat severe infections and can sometimes cause serious colitis; it should only be used when treatment with other antibiotics is difficult. If colitis occurs, symptoms such as severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever may appear, so it is essential to stop administration immediately or observe carefully if symptoms are severe. It is advisable not to use this medication for non-bacterial upper respiratory infections or mild bacterial infections. This medication does not penetrate well into cerebrospinal fluid and is not suitable for treating meningitis. When opening the injection container, glass fragments may be mixed, so caution should be exercised, especially when administering to children or the elderly. Patients who are allergic to lincomycin or clindamycin should not use this medication. Elderly patients, weakened individuals, patients with liver or kidney impairment, individuals with atopic constitution or asthma, and those with myasthenia gravis should use this medication cautiously. Injection may cause pain or numbness at the injection site for muscle injections, and thrombophlebitis may occur for intravenous injections; hence, care should be taken with the injection method. Gastrointestinal side effects may include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, and in severe cases, pseudomembranous colitis may occur. Allergic reactions can manifest as hives, rashes, difficulty breathing, and low blood pressure, so if unusual symptoms occur, administration should be discontinued immediately. Liver or kidney dysfunction may occur, so regular function tests should be performed during long-term use. This medication can enhance muscle relaxant effects when used concurrently, so caution is necessary during combination. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication. Safety has not been established in newborns, premature infants, or children, so it should be administered cautiously only when necessary, and regular check-ups of liver and kidney function are recommended. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so emergency treatment must be done according to symptoms, and it is not removed by hemodialysis.
