This medication is primarily used for patients with atherosclerotic symptoms such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease. It also reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications due to acute coronary syndrome and lowers the mortality rate, myocardial infarction, and stroke risk in patients who have undergone coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass surgery. It helps reduce the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have a low risk of bleeding and cannot use vitamin K antagonists. It effectively acts on various cardiovascular diseases, improving patients' health conditions.

Precautions

This medication helps prevent platelets from aggregating, promoting better blood flow. Individuals with reduced function of a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may experience diminished effects of this medication, and in such cases, it is advised to consult a doctor to adjust the treatment method. Moreover, taking medications that activate certain enzymes alongside this medication may increase the risk of bleeding, so co-administration is not recommended. Patients with allergies to this medication, with active bleeding, severe liver impairment, lactating women, those with lactose intolerance or specific allergies should not take this medication. Patients at high risk of bleeding or those scheduled for surgery should carefully decide on the use of this medication, with a recommendation to discontinue use 5 to 7 days prior to surgery. This medication requires regular monitoring for bleeding or blood abnormalities through blood tests. Caution should be exercised as taking this medication along with other blood coagulation affecting drugs may increase the risk of bleeding. During the course of this medication, the time it takes for bleeding to stop may be longer than usual, so patients should immediately inform a doctor if bleeding is severe or persists. During pregnancy or childbirth, the risk of bleeding may increase, so it is advised to stop using this medication before childbirth or nerve block procedures. In lactating cases, consult a doctor regarding the possibility of this medication being excreted in breast milk. Its safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so use in children is not recommended. For elderly patients, dose adjustment and careful monitoring are necessary as physical functions may decline, increasing the risk of bleeding. In case of overdose, there may be an increased risk of bleeding, and while there is no specific antidote, bleeding may be managed with platelet transfusion. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
