This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension in patients and myocardial ischemia due to stable angina and variant angina. It helps to dilate blood vessels and improve blood circulation, reducing the burden on the heart. By controlling hypertension and ensuring adequate oxygen supply to the heart, it alleviates symptoms. This action effectively helps in managing cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer amlodipine 5 mg orally once daily. If symptoms do not improve within 2 ∼ 4 weeks, the dose may be increased according to the patient's response, up to a maximum of 10 mg daily. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients who have had an allergic reaction to this drug or similar drugs, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients in cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis patients, unstable angina patients, those who have experienced a recent myocardial infarction, patients with severe liver dysfunction, and those with very low blood pressure should not use this medication. Additionally, patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly patients, those with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, patients with slightly reduced liver function, patients with limited heart function, patients with low cardiac reserve, and diabetic patients should use this medication cautiously. Various side effects may occur while using this medication. Common side effects include flushing with a sensation of warmth, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle swelling. Rarely, symptoms such as dry mouth, excessive sweating, low blood pressure, fainting, muscle cramps, skin rashes, liver function abnormalities, and allergic reactions may occur, and if such symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication can worsen symptoms, so it should not be stopped arbitrarily without a doctor's instructions and should be tapered gradually. This medication may lead to increased blood concentration in patients with poor liver function, and since the blood pressure lowering effect appears slowly, it is not suitable for emergency situations. It should be taken with plenty of water, and if dizziness or fatigue occurs, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. This medication can interact with several other drugs. Specifically, taking it with grapefruit juice may excessively increase the blood pressure lowering effect and is not recommended. Furthermore, it is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using certain antibiotics, antidepressants, or antihypertensive medications, as caution is required when used with some drugs. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication as its safety has not been established, and it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding if nursing. The safety and efficacy have not been adequately established for children, so use in this population is not recommended. For the elderly, the drug may remain in the body for a long time, increasing the risk of side effects, so it should be carefully administered starting from a low dose. In the event of overdose, severe low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and decreased consciousness may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment, and this medication is not removed through dialysis. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers to ensure safety and maintain its quality.
