Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used to alleviate the symptoms of patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease and to slow the decline in cognitive function.
Treatment must be initiated by a physician with experience in diagnosing and treating Alzheimer's dementia, and can only commence if a caregiver can periodically check the patient's medication compliance. It can be taken regardless of food intake. Dose escalation: the maximum daily dose is 20 mg, and to minimize the risk of adverse reactions, the dosage should be increased by 5 mg per week over the initial 3 weeks until maintenance dose is reached.
This medicine should not be used in patients with a known allergy to any component of this medication. It should not be administered to patients with severe liver disease or significantly impaired kidney function. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain metabolic genetic disorders should also refrain from taking this medication. Patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures should use this medicine cautiously, as the risk of side effects may increase when taken with certain drugs. Particular caution is advised when co-administering with medications that affect the central nervous system, as the risk of side effects may be increased, and consultation with a physician is essential. Patients with heart disease or uncontrolled hypertension should also be cautious when using this medication. This medication may cause side effects such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension; if these symptoms occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Additionally, as this medication can interact with other drugs, it is vital to inform healthcare providers about any medications currently being taken. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully weigh the risks and benefits of using this medication, and it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding if using this medication. Safety and efficacy have not been established for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. In the event of overdose, central nervous system symptoms and gastrointestinal symptoms may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication can reduce the patient's responsiveness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to other containers.
