Treatment of hypertension and kidney disease (in patients with type 2 diabetes)
This medication is used to treat hypertension. It also helps to slow the progression of kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes who have hypertension. Therefore, it is effective in improving cardiovascular and kidney health associated with hypertension.
For the treatment of hypertension, the recommended dose of losartan potassium is 50 mg taken orally once daily. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, it may be divided into two doses per day or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For the treatment of kidney disease in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes, the usual dose is 50 mg taken orally once daily, with the option to increase to 100 mg based on blood pressure. If there is concern about excessive blood pressure reduction, a starting dose of 25 mg is recommended.
For children and adolescents aged 6 years and older with a weight of 20 kg or more and under 50 kg, the recommended dosage is 25 mg once daily, with a maximum dosage of 50 mg. For those weighing 50 kg or more, the recommended dosage is 50 mg once daily.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or those who are pregnant, patients with severe liver disease, patients with hereditary angioedema, and patients with primary hyperaldosteronism should avoid taking it. Elderly patients, patients with weakened kidney function, patients with hyperkalemia, and patients with heart disease should take this medication with caution and should frequently monitor their condition under the guidance of a physician while taking it. When taking this medication, symptoms may occur due to dizziness or a drop in blood pressure, so caution is necessary while driving or operating machinery. During treatment, blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be regularly monitored for abnormalities. This medication may increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken in conjunction with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, so do not combine it without consulting a physician. Various side effects such as angioedema, liver function abnormalities, muscle pain, and dry cough may also occur, so if symptoms are severe or persistent, notify your healthcare provider immediately. Pregnant or nursing women should preferably avoid taking this medication, and if they must take it, they should discuss it thoroughly with a specialist. Children, especially those under 6 years of age or those with severely reduced kidney function, should not take this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and cardiac arrhythmias may occur, requiring immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. It is advisable to avoid consuming grapefruit juice while taking this medication, and be sure to inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking due to potential interactions with other drugs.

Muscle cramps, back pain, leg pain, dizziness, nasal congestion, upper respiratory infection, sinusitis, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, cough, sinus disorder, pharyngitis, muscle pain, insomnia, headache, weakness, fatigue, abdominal pain, chest pain, soft tissue inflammation, hair loss, dermatitis, dry skin, petechiae, erythema, flush, photosensitivity reactions, itching, rash, sweating, hives, blurred vision, burning or painful sensations in the eyes, conjunctivitis, taste disorders, tinnitus, vision impairment, and erectile dysfunction
