This medication is used to treat mild to moderate essential hypertension, which is a type of high blood pressure.

How to take

Adult dose

As Lercanidipine Hydrochloride, 5 to 10 mg should be taken orally once daily, at least 15 minutes before meals. The dose may be increased to 20 mg based on the patient’s symptoms. Dose adjustments should be made gradually, as the maximum antihypertensive effect typically takes 2 weeks to become apparent.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, it should not be administered to individuals with allergies to this drug or similar drugs, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe heart problems, those with significant liver or kidney dysfunction, and children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Additionally, caution is required when using this medication in patients with pacemakers, those with mild to moderate liver or kidney dysfunction, those with a history of angina, frequent alcohol consumers, and elderly patients. This medication may occasionally cause side effects such as facial flushing, swelling of the hands and feet, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, headache, indigestion, and nausea. As it may affect liver function, discontinuation of the medication is necessary if liver enzyme levels rise. Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. This drug is metabolized in the liver, which may lead to interactions when taken with certain medications. It is particularly advisable not to take it with grapefruit juice, specific antibiotics, antifungals, or antiepileptic drugs. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication, nor should it be used in children and adolescents. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and heart problems may arise, necessitating immediate medical treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container for safety.
