Adult dose

This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day. For hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose is recommended to be 50 mg once daily orally as Losartan Potassium. If the therapeutic effect is insufficient, it may be divided and taken twice daily or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, typically 50 mg of this drug once daily is recommended.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be used by pregnant women or those who may become pregnant. It is generally unsafe for patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, certain genetic disorders, and those with a history of angioedema to use this medication. Elderly patients or those with hyperkalemia, liver impairment, or heart disease should use this drug cautiously, as excessive drops in blood pressure can lead to serious complications. This drug is usually well tolerated, but may occasionally cause a variety of side effects such as dizziness, headache, muscle pain, dyspepsia, cough, and skin rashes, so patients should consult a physician in case of abnormal symptoms. If angioedema or allergic reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately and appropriate care should be sought. Interactions may occur when this drug is used in conjunction with other antihypertensive agents or potassium-sparing diuretics, hence patients should inform their healthcare provider of any other medications they are taking. It is preferable for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this drug, and if it is necessary to do so, they should consult a specialist and discontinue nursing. Due to the risk of hypotension, renal failure, hyperkalemia, and other risks, regular monitoring of blood pressure and blood tests to check kidney function and electrolyte status should be performed. This medication can cause sudden drops in blood pressure or loss of consciousness, so particularly at the start of treatment or when changing doses, careful monitoring of the patient's condition is required. It is not recommended for children, especially those under 6 years of age or those with severe renal impairment, as the safety and effectiveness have not been established. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and bradycardia may present, necessitating immediate emergency treatment. This drug cannot be removed by hemodialysis, thus caution is necessary. During treatment, patients should not self-administer potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, and should consult their healthcare provider if they plan to become pregnant or are currently pregnant. Store in a place out of reach of children, and keep it in its original container to maintain its quality.
