Pathological hypersecretory conditions, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome The lansoprazole dose for pathological hypersecretory conditions varies for each patient. Treatment in adults is usually initiated at 60 mg once daily. The dose should be adjusted according to the patient's needs and may be continued as long as it is clinically effective. Doses of 90 mg per dose up to twice daily have been administered. If the daily dose exceeds 120 mg, it should be given in divided doses. Because clearance of this medicine is reduced in elderly patients, dose adjustment is necessary. Do not exceed a daily dose of 30 mg. Because metabolism and excretion of this medicine may be delayed in patients with hepatic impairment, administer cautiously, including consideration of dose adjustment.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with specific allergic reactions or during pregnancy. Care should be taken when administering this medication to patients with impaired liver function, the elderly, breastfeeding women, and children. Severe allergic reactions, blood disorders, liver dysfunction, and serious skin reactions may occur during treatment, so if abnormal symptoms appear, stop use immediately and consult medical personnel. Long-term use may result in nutrient deficiencies such as vitamin B12 deficiency or hypomagnesemia, thus regular testing is necessary. This medication inhibits gastric acid secretion, which may increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract, so if gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea persist, inform medical personnel. Drug interactions may occur when taken with other medications; therefore, it is essential to inform medical personnel if taking antibiotics, antivirals, anticoagulants, immunosuppressants, etc. For long-term use, only the minimal effective dose should be used for the appropriate duration, and if symptoms suggestive of malignancy such as gastric ulcers are present, specialist diagnosis is required. Dizziness, drowsiness, and visual disturbances may occur, so caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. In case of overdose, visit a hospital immediately for appropriate treatment; this medication is not removed by hemodialysis. When storing, keep out of reach of children, do not transfer to other containers, and if in oral dosage form, it is advisable to avoid using automatic dispensers.
