This medication is used to treat hypertension, and it also helps prevent and treat kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes, particularly those with hypertension. It is useful for effectively managing high blood pressure to protect heart and kidney health.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day. For hypertension treatment, take 50 mg of losartan potassium orally once daily. If necessary, it can be split into two doses or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily. For the treatment of kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes, it is typically administered at 50 mg once daily, and can be increased depending on blood pressure to 1

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so use should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It is safest for women who may become pregnant to avoid taking this medication, and it is advised that pregnant women refrain from use for the health of the fetus. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain conditions, such as severe liver impairment, hereditary angioedema, or primary hyperaldosteronism. Patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should also avoid this medication. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, mild to moderate liver impairment, or valvular heart disease should use this drug cautiously, considering the risk of heart and cerebrovascular issues due to blood pressure reduction. As this medication lowers blood pressure, special care is required for patients with reduced intravascular blood volume or severely impaired kidney function. While taking this medication, various adverse reactions may occur, with common symptoms including dizziness, muscle cramps, back pain, cough, and indigestion. Rarely, serious side effects such as angioedema or liver dysfunction, and rhabdomyolysis may occur, so immediate consultation with a physician is necessary if abnormal symptoms appear. The risk of side effects like hyperkalemia may increase when this medication is taken in conjunction with other antihypertensives or potassium-sparing diuretics, so caution is advised with co-administration.
