Nexia Suspension (Megestrol Acetate)

Adult dose

(Tablets) 1. Breast cancer: Administer 160 mg of megestrol acetate orally per day in 4 divided doses (40 mg, 1 tablet per dose, 4 times daily). 2. Endometrial cancer: Administer 40～320 mg of this medicine orally per day in divided doses. The effect of this medicine should be assessed over an adequate period, with treatment continued for at least 2 months. (Suspension) Administer 800 mg (20 mL) of megestrol acetate daily after shaking well. In clinical trials, clinical effects were observed with 400～800 mg (10∼20 mL) of this medicine daily.

This drug may cause serious harm to the fetus if used by pregnant women, and therefore should not be taken by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Prolonged use may lead to newly developing diabetes or worsen existing diabetes, as well as increase the risk of adrenal dysfunction. Symptoms of adrenal dysfunction may include low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and weakness, so if these symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which is broken down into phenylalanine in the body; therefore, patients with phenylketonuria should not use this drug. Patients who have had allergies or hypersensitivity reactions to this medication should also avoid taking it. Patients with a history of thromboembolism or diabetes should use this drug cautiously as it may worsen diabetes, requiring careful attention. Diarrhea, rash, abdominal distention, hypertension, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, and other side effects may occur during the use of this drug, and if symptoms are severe, a doctor should be consulted. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this drug, and breastfeeding should be discontinued if using this medication. Safety in children has not been sufficiently established, so it is advisable not to use this drug in children. There have been no reports of particularly severe side effects in cases of overdose, but caution is needed as special treatments like dialysis may not be effective. This drug should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may compromise quality, so this should be avoided. Animal studies have reported a decrease in reproductive capacity and fetal growth issues, so anyone planning a pregnancy should consult a specialist.

Diarrhea

This drug is sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a container that protects it from light. Additionally, it is important to store it at a cool temperature between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius to maintain the drug's efficacy.
