This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension and myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina and variant angina. It lowers blood pressure to reduce the burden on the cardiovascular system, and alleviates symptoms by providing sufficient blood and oxygen to the heart in angina. This helps improve heart function and reduces the likelihood of complications, thereby assisting in maintaining cardiovascular health and effectively managing symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

As Amlodipine, 5 mg orally once daily; if symptoms do not improve within 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 10 mg daily based on the patient's response. Adjust dose appropriately according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It may be dangerous for those with an allergy to this medication or its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients in cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina, patients who have recently had a myocardial infarction, severe liver dysfunction, or hypotensive patients. Additionally, caution should be exercised in administering this medication to patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly patients, patients with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, those with limited cardiac function, low cardiac reserve, and diabetic patients. This medication primarily lowers blood pressure and acts on the heart, which may result in side effects such as facial flushing, warmth, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, indigestion, drowsiness, and ankle swelling. Rarely, excessively low blood pressure or allergic reactions, liver dysfunction, blood disorders, skin rashes, or neurological abnormalities may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Discontinuation of this medication suddenly may worsen symptoms; thus, it should not be stopped arbitrarily without a doctor's instructions. Take this medication with a sufficient quantity of water, and be cautious when driving or operating dangerous machinery as dizziness or drowsiness can occur due to blood pressure reduction. This medication may interact with other antihypertensive agents, diuretics, antibiotics, hypoglycemic agents, etc., so it is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. In particular, avoid grapefruit juice as taking it alongside this medication can excessively increase its effects. It is recommended to avoid taking this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding as its safety has not been established, and if breastfeeding, it is advisable to discontinue nursing during the treatment period. The safety and efficacy for children have not been clearly established, so caution should be exercised when using it in pediatric patients. For elderly patients, the medication concentration in the body may be increased and effects may last longer, so it should be started at a low dose with careful monitoring of the condition. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, arrhythmias, or decreased consciousness may occur, necessitating immediate emergency treatment. Note that this medication is not removed by dialysis, and professional treatment is required. Lastly, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and care should be taken not to transfer it to another container, as this may lead to accidents or deterioration of quality.
