This medication is used to treat high blood pressure. It also helps prevent and treat kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes who have high blood pressure. This assists in controlling blood pressure and preventing deterioration of kidney function, thereby helping to maintain health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily at the same time regardless of meals. For hypertension treatment, the initial and maintenance dose recommended is 50 mg of losartan potassium taken orally once daily, and if treatment effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased to 100 mg taken once daily or may be divided into two doses per day. For treating kidney disease in patients with high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, the usual dose is 50 mg once daily, depending on blood pressure.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Individuals with hypersensitivity to this drug, pregnant women, those with severe liver impairment, and patients with hereditary angioedema should not take this medication. When taking this medicine for high blood pressure, sudden drops in blood pressure may lead to dizziness or fainting, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. This medication should not be given to children, especially those under 6 years of age or to children with severely impaired kidney function.
