This medication is used to treat hypertension and myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina due to fixed lesion of the coronary artery, as well as variant angina caused by vasospasm of the coronary vasculature.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5 mg orally once daily as amlodipine. If symptoms have not improved within 2 to 4 weeks, the dosage can be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily based on the patient's response. Adjust dosage appropriately according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medication or similar medications, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients in severe shock, patients with severe valvular heart disease, those with unstable angina or recent myocardial infarction, and patients with severe liver dysfunction or hypotension. Additionally, it should be used with caution in patients with very poor kidney function, the elderly, patients with acute heart failure, patients in hypertensive crisis, patients with mildly impaired liver function, patients with limited heart function, and patients with diabetes. When taking this medication, side effects such as flushing and redness of the face, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle swelling may occur. Rarely, hypotension, skin rash, liver function abnormalities, and allergic reactions can occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. This medication may worsen symptoms if suddenly discontinued, so the dosage should be gradually reduced according to the doctor's instructions. Care should be taken not to stop taking the medication on one's own. When taking it, it should be taken with sufficient water, and because it may cause dizziness or drowsiness due to blood pressure reduction, caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery. There may be interactions with other medications when taken together, so grapefruit juice should be avoided, and specific antibiotics, diuretics, and antihypertensive medications should be reported to a doctor when taken together. During pregnancy or while breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid use as the safety of this medication has not been established, and its safety in children has also not been confirmed. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentration in the body; therefore, therapy should start from a low dose and be monitored closely. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, heart irregularities, and shock may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment; this medication is not removed by hemodialysis. When stored, it should be kept out of the reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers.

Urticaria, angioedema, toxic epidermal necrolysis, skin and mucosal syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), jaundice, hepatitis, severe edema, urination disorders, severe hypotension, shock, loss of consciousness, coma, exacerbation of heart failure, pulmonary edema, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, chest pain, AV block, neurological symptoms (including paralysis)
