Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
To obtain the greatest benefit, determine the dose individually for each patient. The usual daily doses listed below are suitable for most patients, although higher doses may be required. In such cases, increase the dose slowly to avoid adverse effects. The risk of dependence may increase with the dose and duration of treatment. Therefore, administer the lowest possible effective dose for the shortest possible period and frequently reassess the need for continued treatment. ○ Adults 1. The initial dosage is 0.25-0.5㎎ of alprazolam per dose, 3 times daily, with a maximum dose of 4㎎ per day. For elderly patients, patients with hepatic impairment, and debilitated patients, the initial dosage is 0.25㎎ per dose, 2-3 times daily. Reduce the dose if adverse effects occur at the initial dosage. 2. Psychosomatic disorders Administer 1.2㎎ of this medication per day orally in 3 divided doses. If increasing the dose, increase it slowly up to a maximum of 2.4㎎ per day, administered orally in 3-4 divided doses. For elderly patients, the initial dosage is 0.4㎎ per dose, 1-2 times daily, with a maximum dose of 1.2㎎ per day. 3. Panic disorder The initial dose is 0.5㎎ of this medication. Depending on the patient's response to treatment, increase the dose by no more than 1㎎ at intervals of 3-4 days to an average daily dose of 5-6㎎, divided into 3-4 doses. When discontinuing treatment, reduce the dose by no more than 0.5㎎, usually at intervals of 3 days; an even lower dose reduction may be required.

Precautions

This medication should only be used at the minimum dose for the shortest duration necessary, as it can cause severe drowsiness, respiratory distress, loss of consciousness, and potentially death when taken with narcotics. This medication acts as a central nervous system depressant, so caution is needed when taking it with other sedatives, alcohol, or narcotic analgesics. This medication may lead to abuse and dependence, so it should be taken exactly as prescribed by a doctor, and unused medication should be stored safely or disposed of properly. Patients with allergic reactions or certain conditions (acute closed-angle glaucoma, severe myasthenia gravis, severe respiratory failure, severe liver failure, etc.) should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease, liver or kidney function impairment, brain disorders, and the elderly may experience more severe side effects when taking this medication, thus requiring careful consideration by a physician. This medication may cause drowsiness, decreased concentration, and reduced reflexes, so driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. Regular liver function and blood tests are recommended during long-term use. Abruptly stopping the medication may result in withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, tremors, and seizures, so it should be tapered off gradually under a doctor's guidance. During pregnancy, especially in the later stages, it may affect the fetus and newborn, so pregnant women should not take this medication and breastfeeding mothers should avoid it or discontinue breastfeeding if possible.
