Short-term treatment of insomnia
This medication is used to effectively treat insomnia for a short period.
This medication should be administered for a short period (usually 7-10 days), and the treatment period should not exceed 2-3 weeks. To achieve the greatest benefit and avoid serious adverse effects, the dose should be individualized, and the minimum effective dose should be used. Take care not to increase the prescribed dose. If the dose must be increased because there is no response at a low dose, adverse reactions may be dose-dependent; therefore, administer cautiously while monitoring the patient closely. 1. Adults: Depending on the patient, administer 0.125-0.25 mg of triazolam orally at bedtime. As adverse reactions increase in a dose-dependent manner, doses exceeding 0.25 mg are not recommended. 2. Elderly and debilitated patients: Administer 0.125 mg of triazolam as the initial dose. If there is no response to the low dose, 0.25 mg may be administered, but do not exceed 0.25 mg. 3. Discontinuation or dose reduction The risk of dependence may increase with the dose and duration of treatment. Therefore, administer the lowest appropriate dose for the shortest possible period and frequently reassess the need for continued treatment. Sudden discontinuation or rapid dose reduction after continued use of this medication may cause withdrawal reactions that can be life-threatening. To reduce the risk of withdrawal reactions, discontinue this medication or reduce the dose gradually (see “1. Warnings” under Precautions for Use). If withdrawal reactions occur, consider temporarily pausing the dose reduction or increasing the dose to the previous dose. Thereafter, reduce the dose more slowly.
This medication helps with sleep, but you may engage in behaviors such as driving or eating while not fully awake after taking it, and you may not remember these actions. Caution is advised, especially if combined with alcohol or other sedatives, as the risk of these behaviors increases. Additionally, serious allergic reactions may occur on rare occasions, which could involve swelling of the tongue or throat or difficulty breathing. If these symptoms appear, immediately stop taking the medication and seek medical attention. This medication can affect the nervous system and cause increased anxiety, unusual behavior, hallucinations, or memory disturbance; if these symptoms occur, consult a doctor. Drowsiness or dizziness may occur during use, so avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery, and avoid taking it with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Taking it with opioids can suppress breathing and may be dangerous, so it should only be given in the minimum dose if absolutely necessary, and the condition should be closely monitored. Additionally, there is a risk of dependence or addiction with this medication; therefore, do not use it for extended periods and do not suddenly stop taking it without gradually reducing the dose as per the doctor’s instructions. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, patients with acute closed-angle glaucoma, and individuals who are dependent on drugs or alcohol should not take this medication, and elderly patients or those with impaired liver or kidney function should use it with caution. In case of overdose, symptoms such as coma or respiratory depression may occur, so immediate emergency treatment is necessary, and the medication should be kept out of reach of children. During the use of this medication, avoid alcohol, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you must inform your doctor.
