Improvement of secondary amenorrhea and functional uterine bleeding (hormonal imbalance)
This medication is used for the treatment of secondary amenorrhea, functional uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance, and mild to moderate endometriosis. It is also used as a combination therapy with estrogen in menopausal women who have not undergone hysterectomy. It helps with various women's health issues and is effective in symptom relief and maintaining health.
1. Secondary Amenorrhea Administer 5 to 10 mg of Medroxyprogesterone Acetate once daily by mouth for 5 to 10 days. The recommended dose to convert the endometrium to an optimal secretory state is 10 mg once daily for 10 days. 2. Functional Uterine Bleeding Administer 5 to 10 mg once daily starting from day 16 or 21 of the menstrual cycle for 5 to 10 days. To convert the endometrium to an optimal secretory state, administer 10 mg starting from day 16 of the cycle. 3. Mild or Moderate Endometriosis Administer 10 mg three times a day for 90 consecutive days starting from day 1 of the menstrual cycle. 4. Combination Therapy with Estrogen Administration 1) This medication is administered to women who have not undergone hysterectomy and are undergoing hormonal (estrogen) replacement therapy as follows: - Cyclic therapy: Start 5 to 10 mg of this medication on either day 1 or day 16 of the cycle and administer for 12 to 14 consecutive days. - Continuous therapy: Administer 2.5 mg or 5 mg of this medication daily alongside estrogen therapy. This regimen will result in the cessation of regular bleeding over the months. 2) After diagnosing menopause, progestin challenge testing is recommended for amenorrheic women who have not undergone hysterectomy. ○ Progestin Challenge Test: Administer 10 mg of this medication daily for 10 days. - Negative test: It is determined that there is no withdrawal bleeding, indicating insufficient estrogen secretion and lack of stimulation of the endometrium. Hormonal replacement therapy combining estrogen and this medication should be considered for these women. - Positive test: Withdrawal bleeding occurs within 7 days after finishing the progestin challenge test, indicating there is sufficient endogenous estrogen to stimulate the endometrium. This medication should be administered until withdrawal bleeding stops. The cessation of withdrawal bleeding indicates that stimulation of the endometrium has ceased due to decreased estrogen secretion. Hormonal replacement therapy combining estrogen and this medication should be considered for these women.
