Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or could become pregnant, or by breastfeeding women. It should also not be administered to patients with serious gastrointestinal issues, such as gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation. Patients with specific tumors, such as pheochromocytoma, should avoid this medication as it may dangerously increase blood pressure. Patients allergic to this medication or unable to tolerate side effects should not use it. Administration is prohibited in patients with epilepsy, specific stages of manic-depressive illness, or certain bipolar conditions. Caution is advised for patients with malignant lesions in the breast since this medication may exacerbate breast problems. Additionally, individuals with genetic disorders affecting lactose digestion should not take this medication. Hypertensive patients, children, and elderly patients should use this medication cautiously. Children, in particular, should be careful to avoid overdose, and elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, increasing the risk of side effects. When taking this medication, patients should be closely monitored for signs of endocrine disorders such as amenorrhea, hyperlactation, and gynecomastia. Rarely, neurological side effects such as tremors, tongue twisting, or anxiety may occur, requiring cessation of the medication if these symptoms arise. Prolonged use may result in involuntary movements around the mouth, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac-related side effects may include hypertension or arrhythmia, so monitoring heart health is important. A serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome has been reported rarely, presenting with high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness; in such cases, the medication should be stopped immediately, and emergency treatment is necessary. Allergic reactions such as rashes or edema can also occur rarely, so discontinue use if these symptoms develop. Furthermore, symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, and erectile dysfunction have been reported. During treatment with this medication, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery that requires concentration. Concomitant use with other medications that may influence heart rhythm can increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmia, so caution is warranted. Additionally, this medication should not be used in conjunction with drugs that cause electrolyte imbalances, and the consumption of alcohol should be avoided. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and elderly patients should carefully adjust dosage and intervals due to the possibility of prolonged retention of the drug in the body, increasing the risk of side effects. This medication affects gastrointestinal motility; therefore, caution should be exercised regarding interactions with other medications, as side effects may increase when taken with specific drugs, necessitating consultation with a healthcare professional. Finally, animal studies have reported possible reproductive function impairment and tumor development risks with long-term use of this medication, so these risks should be considered.
