Improvement of hypertension and angina
This medication is used for cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and angina.
Hypertension: The initial dose for adults is 50 mg of atenolol once a day, either alone or in combination with a diuretic (thiazide type) for oral administration. If effects are not observed within 1-2 weeks, the dose may be increased to 100 mg once a day. The total daily dose should not exceed 100 mg. Angina: The total daily dose is 100 mg, divided into 1-2 doses, and should not exceed 100 mg per day. Patients with renal impairment: Creatinine clearance of 15-35 ml/min.
This medicine should not be taken by those who are allergic to the active ingredient or excipients. Patients with severe bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and those with very slow heart rates or conduction problems in the heart may be at risk if they use this medication. Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis, patients with severe hypotension or peripheral blood circulation disorders should not take this medicine. Patients with severe heart failure or right heart failure due to pulmonary hypertension should also be cautious. This medicine contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take it. Patients who are at risk of bronchial asthma or bronchospasm should use a bronchodilator together with this medication and be monitored closely. Patients at risk of heart failure should also monitor their heart condition closely while taking this medication. Diabetes patients or those at risk of hypoglycemia should check their blood sugar levels frequently, as symptoms of hypoglycemia may be concealed. Patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, patients with pheochromocytoma, and the elderly should adjust the dosage or administer this drug cautiously. This medication can cause various side effects, including allergic reactions such as itching or rashes, decreased tear secretion or visual disturbances, decreased heart rate, hypotension, fatigue, dizziness, dyspepsia, and difficulty breathing. In particular, heart-related side effects such as bradycardia, heart failure, or atrioventricular block may occur, so if symptoms appear, consult medical personnel immediately. If this medication is taken for a long period, regular checks of heart function, blood pressure, liver, and kidney function are required, and should not be abruptly discontinued; dosage should be gradually reduced as directed by a physician. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 24 hours prior to surgery and inform the anesthesiologist of its use to reduce risks associated with heart suppression during anesthesia. Dizziness may occur at the beginning of treatment, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially when taken with antihypertensives, antidiabetics, cardiac medications, and anesthetics, so consult with medical personnel. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should make careful decisions regarding the administration of this medication as it may affect the fetus, and while breastfeeding, it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding or avoid taking it. Safety for children has not been established, so it is not recommended for use in pediatric patients. Elderly individuals should start at a low dose and monitor their condition closely, and in case of overdose, severe bradycardia, hypotension, difficulty breathing, and hypoglycemia may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment. This medication should be stored in a cool place out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
