Precautions

This drug should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this medication or any of its components. This drug contains lactose; individuals with genetic disorders that prevent lactose digestion should not take it. Caution is advised for patients with chronic active hepatitis or cirrhosis who have liver function issues. Side effects such as dry mouth, nausea, or skin rash may occur, and these symptoms can subside with the use of allergy medications. Transient jaundice may occur, but it can improve by discontinuing the medication or using jaundice treatment. Occasional nausea or abdominal distension may occur, but these generally resolve soon. Using this medication together with another drug, Inosine, may have an effect of improving liver function. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Elderly patients should use this drug with caution, potentially requiring a reduced dose due to decreased bodily function. It is rare for liver function to elevate during treatment, but liver levels may rise upon stopping the medication, and improvements can occur when the medication is resumed. This drug should be kept out of reach of children and should be stored safely in its original packaging, tightly closed.
