Improvement of hypertension and angina
Hypertension and angina are representative cardiovascular diseases, used to control blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.
1. Hypertension: The initial adult dose is 50mg of atenolol taken once a day, either alone or in combination with a diuretic (thiazide type). If the effect does not manifest within 1-2 weeks, the dose may be increased to 100mg once daily and should not exceed 100mg per day. 2. Angina: 100mg may be taken once or twice a day and should not exceed 100mg per day. 3. For patients with renal impairment: Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) Dosage 15-35 50mg once a day <15 25mg once a day or 50mg every 2 days Dosage should be adjusted according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to the active ingredients or additives. It should not be administered to patients with severe bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and patients with very slow heart rate or problems with heart conduction. Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis, severe hypotension, or peripheral circulation disorders can also be at risk when taking this medication. This medication should not be used in patients with thyroid dysfunction or untreated pheochromocytoma, and those with certain hereditary diseases such as lactose intolerance. Patients at risk of bronchial asthma or bronchospasm should use this medication with caution and along with a bronchodilator for careful observation. Patients who may develop heart failure, patients with difficult-to-control diabetes, and those with severely impaired liver or kidney function should also be administered with caution. During the course of taking this medication, side effects such as skin rash, itching, dry eyes or visual disturbances, decreased heart rate, low blood pressure, dizziness, indigestion, and breathing difficulties may occur, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a doctor is advised. If taken for a long time, regular checks of heart function, blood pressure, liver, and kidney function should be performed, and sudden discontinuation of the medication can worsen cardiac disease symptoms; thus, it should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions. Dizziness may occur while taking this medication, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult with a doctor before taking this medication as it may affect the fetus or newborn. Elderly patients should start at a lower dose and be closely monitored. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is important to inform the doctor, especially when taking blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, calcium channel blockers, anesthetics, and antiarrhythmics. In case of overdose, severe bradycardia, heart failure, hypotension, bronchospasm, and hypoglycemia may occur, requiring immediate medical attention.
