Prevention of vitamin C deficiency and treatment of scurvy, and effects on capillary bleeding and bone union promotion
This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of acute vitamin C deficiency, especially scurvy. It also helps when the vitamin C demand increases in pregnant and breastfeeding women or those engaged in heavy physical labor. It is effective for capillary bleeding, vitamin C metabolism disorders due to medication use, promoting bone matrix formation and union during fractures. It is utilized to improve skin-related symptoms such as melasma, freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and photosensitivity dermatitis. Overall, it acts effectively on vitamin C deficiency and related metabolic disorders.
As ascorbic acid, inject 50 to 1,000 mg daily divided into 1 to several subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injections. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
When using this medication as an ampoule injection, it is important to be very careful when cutting the container to avoid mixing glass fragments. Extra caution should be taken, especially when used in children or the elderly. Individuals allergic to any of the components of this medication should not use it. Furthermore, this medication should not be administered to patients with oxaluria, Mediterranean anemia, gout, cystinuria, and G6PD deficiency. Patients with kidney stones should not receive more than 1 gram per day. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fatigue, flushing, headache, and insomnia may occur when using this medication. Particularly, administering more than 1 gram per day can increase the risk of diarrhea or kidney stones. At dosages above 600 milligrams, diuretic effects may occur, and in G6PD-deficient patients, hemolysis can occur. Excessive doses may lead to the deposition of various substances in the urinary tract, so caution is warranted. This medication is usually taken orally, but is administered by injection only in acute situations or when gastrointestinal absorption is difficult. If oral administration is feasible, it is advisable to switch back to oral use quickly. Co-administration with certain medications may reduce the effectiveness of this medication or cause side effects, so concurrent use should be avoided. It is not confirmed safe for the fetus during pregnancy, and it should only be used when necessary, not exceeding 1 gram per day. High-dose administration may induce scurvy in newborns, so caution is warranted. This medication is also transmitted through breast milk, but is not harmful to infants at standard doses. Taking this medication may affect the results of certain urine or stool tests, so it is advisable to inform the testing personnel. Overdose may result in diarrhea or kidney stones, and diuretic effects may also occur, necessitating immediate cessation of use and medical attention if symptoms arise. Pain may occur at the injection site when administered by injection, and care should be taken not to reuse the injection site. Intravenous injections should be administered slowly to reduce dizziness or vascular pain. Lastly, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, kept in a dry place away from direct sunlight, and securely closed in its original container.
