Precautions

This medication should not be administered to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and to nursing mothers. This medication should not be used in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or mechanical obstruction, as it may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and be harmful. It should also be avoided in specific patients whose tumors may cause hypertension. Patients with known allergies or intolerance to this medication should not take it. Caution is required for patients with liver disease or certain mental illnesses as the use of this medication may be risky. Patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly should use this medication cautiously, as side effects may manifest in children, indicating that dosage adjustment is important. This medication may cause side effects such as amenorrhea, excessive milk production, and gynecomastia due to hormonal imbalances; if symptoms occur, it should be discontinued immediately. Moreover, extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and anxiety may rarely occur, necessitating caution. Prolonged use may lead to involuntary movements around the mouth, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may occur. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmia may also occur, requiring monitoring. Rarely, a serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, characterized by high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness, requiring immediate medical attention. Patients should consult a physician in case of skin rash, swelling, drowsiness, dizziness, or erectile dysfunction. It is advisable to avoid activities requiring attention such as driving or operating machinery while taking this medication. Additionally, as this medication may affect heart rhythm, it should be used with caution in patients with heart disease. There may be interactions with other medications, particularly when taken with anticholinergics, narcotic analgesics, digitalis preparations, psychiatric medications, and drugs that prolong the QT interval. Combining with alcohol should also be avoided. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication due to the lack of established safety for the fetus or newborn. Elderly patients should be cautious as renal function decline may lead to increased drug concentrations, necessitating dosage adjustments due to the risk of side effects. Lastly, this medication has an antiemetic effect which may conceal vomiting symptoms from other conditions, therefore it should be used cautiously. Animal studies indicate that prolonged high-dose use may affect the reproductive system.
