How to take

Adult dose

Hypertension: The initial adult dosage is 50 mg of Atenolol once daily, either alone or in combination with a thiazide diuretic, and if no effect is observed within 1-2 weeks, the dosage may be increased to 100 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients with certain diseases or conditions. For example, individuals allergic to the main ingredient or additives of this medication, those suffering from severe asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and those with very slow heart rates or heart conduction disorders may be at risk if they take this medication. Furthermore, patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis, severe hypotension or peripheral circulation disorders, right heart failure due to pulmonary hypertension, and congestive heart failure should also not take this medication. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with certain genetic disorders should take caution. This medication should be administered cautiously to patients who may experience asthma or bronchospasm, those at risk of congestive heart failure, patients with difficult-to-control diabetes, individuals with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, and elderly patients, under close monitoring by a physician. During treatment, allergic reactions such as skin rashes or itching may occur, and if these symptoms develop, the medication should be immediately discontinued. Decreased tear secretion, vision disturbances, and dry eye symptoms may also appear. Cardiac-related side effects may include a slowed heart rate or lowered blood pressure, and coldness of the extremities may also occur. Symptoms such as mental confusion, mood changes, insomnia, and dizziness have also been reported. Gastrointestinal side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain; rare cases of shortness of breath or bronchospasm may also occur. Abnormal liver or kidney function may manifest, requiring regular check-ups. This medication necessitates regular monitoring of heart function, blood pressure, and pulse during long-term use, and abrupt discontinuation may worsen heart symptoms, thus dosages should be reduced gradually. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness may occur, and interactions with other drugs can alter efficacy; thus, consulting a physician or pharmacist is essential. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should carefully consider the potential effects on the fetus or newborn before taking this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as decreased heart rate, hypotension, shortness of breath, and hypoglycemia may appear, thus immediate medical treatment is necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept away from high temperatures above 25 degrees.
