Treatment of musculoskeletal diseases (painful muscle spasm) and neurological disorders (spastic paralysis)
This medication is used for painful muscle spasms associated with musculoskeletal diseases, such as shoulder-hand syndrome, adhesive capsulitis, and low back pain. It is also applicable to various neurological disorders resulting in spastic paralysis, cerebrovascular disorders, spastic spinal paralysis, cervical spondylosis, residual symptoms after surgery (including brain and spinal cord tumors), and residual symptoms after trauma (spinal cord injury, head trauma), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinocerebellar degeneration, spinal vascular disorders, subacute spinal optic nerve lesions, and other central nervous system diseases. This medication helps improve patient symptoms by relaxing muscle stiffness and relieving pain.
Administer 50 mg orally three times a day after meals as Eperisone Hydrochloride. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Firstly, individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication should avoid taking it. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with severe muscle weakness caused by myasthenia gravis. As this medication contains lactose, individuals with a genetic issue that prevents the digestion of lactose should not take it. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to drugs should take this medication with caution, and those with poor liver function should also be careful as it might worsen liver function. During use, various side effects may occur, so careful monitoring is necessary. Rarely, symptoms of shock may arise, so if symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and treatment sought. Liver function test levels may rise, so if abnormalities occur, the medication should be stopped and appropriate treatment should be administered. It may also affect kidney function, and if proteinuria or blood test abnormalities appear, administration should be discontinued. Blood abnormalities like anemia may occur rarely, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Neurological symptoms such as skin rash, itching, insomnia, drowsiness, headache, and limb paralysis may occasionally appear. In the gastrointestinal system, various symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and abdominal pain may occur, so caution is necessary. Urinary issues, general weakness, and dizziness have also been reported. Particularly, symptoms of severe skin disorders like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, so if fever, skin rash, blisters, eye congestion, or stomatitis arise, medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. Generally, while taking this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness, lethargy, and dizziness may occur, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. Additionally, when used alongside other muscle relaxants, side effects such as dosage adjustment disturbances have been reported, so caution is required. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks since safety is not established. If breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid taking the medication or discontinue breastfeeding if possible. Safety for children has not been adequately established, so use should be careful, and elderly patients should be cautious, as physical functions may decline, and dosing should be reduced accordingly.
