Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or by women who are breastfeeding. It should also not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation. Patients with hypertension caused by tumors or those with allergic reactions to this medication should not use it. Caution is also necessary for patients with liver disease, those in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, and those with breast-related conditions. Additionally, patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not be treated with this medication. It should be used cautiously in patients with hypertension, children, and elderly patients, and care should be taken to avoid overdosing in children. This medication can cause symptoms like amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and gynecomastia due to endocrine disturbances, so if any abnormal signs appear, use should be immediately discontinued. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and agitation may occur, and if these symptoms appear, dosing should be stopped. Caution is needed due to the potential for involuntary movements with long-term use. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension and arrhythmia may occur, requiring monitoring. A serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may rarely occur, necessitating immediate discontinuation of the medication and emergency treatment if symptoms like high fever, muscle rigidity, or alterations in consciousness appear. If allergic reactions such as rashes or edema develop, dosing should be discontinued, and symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, and dizziness may also occur. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery while taking this medication. There may be drug interactions, particularly with anticholinergics, analgesics, digitalis preparations, other benzamide drugs, psychiatric medications, alcohol, medications that prolong the QT interval, and those causing electrolyte disturbances. In elderly patients, the medication may remain in the body longer due to decreased kidney function, so attention should be paid to dosing and intervals. This medication has antiemetic properties and may hide or worsen vomiting caused by other reasons, so caution is needed. There have been reports of risks of reproductive or tumor development with long-term high-dose use, so careful monitoring is essential during extended use.
