Precautions

This medication should not be used in women during pregnancy or those who may become pregnant, as well as in nursing women. Patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation should not be administered this medication, as it may worsen their condition by stimulating gastrointestinal motility. Patients with specific tumors, such as pheochromocytoma, should avoid this medication due to the potential for increased blood pressure. Patients who have allergic reactions to this medication or lack tolerance should not take it. This medication should not be administered to patients in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, as it may exacerbate symptoms. Patients with lactation issues or concerns about abnormal prolactin secretion should exercise caution, as this medication may cause breast-related problems as a side effect. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should avoid it. Patients with hypertension should use this medication cautiously, as it may affect blood pressure. Pediatric patients are at higher risk for extrapyramidal symptoms as side effects, so dosage should be adjusted and careful monitoring is required. Elderly patients should adjust dosage and administration intervals, as decreased kidney function may lead to prolonged retention of the medication in the body, increasing the risk of adverse reactions. This medication may cause endocrine side effects such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia due to hormonal secretory abnormalities; if symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, or restlessness can also infrequently occur, and if such symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped. Long-term use may lead to involuntary movements around the mouth, which can persist even after discontinuation of the medication, thus requiring vigilance. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. This medication can induce cardiovascular side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmia, so caution is advised. A severe side effect called neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, and if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness develop, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and emergency treatment should be sought. Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash or edema may occur; if such symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped. During treatment with this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, or lethargy may manifest, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. Use of high doses may rarely lead to serious side effects such as cardiac rhythm abnormalities, thus patients at risk for heart disease should be extra cautious. This medication may interact with other drugs, so when used in conjunction with anticholinergics, narcotic analgesics, digitalis preparations, or other psychiatric medications, it is important to consult a professional and monitor carefully. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid using this medication as its safety for the fetus and newborn has not been established. Elderly patients need dosage adjustments and monitoring for adverse reactions, as the medication may accumulate in the body due to decreased kidney function. Finally, this medication has antiemetic effects that may mask or worsen vomiting symptoms caused by other factors, so careful observation of the condition during use is essential.
