Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as by women who are breastfeeding. It should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation, as it may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and be harmful. It should also be avoided in patients with specific tumors, such as pheochromocytoma, as it may worsen hypertension. This drug should not be given to patients with hypersensitivity or intolerance. Patients with epilepsy, manic states, or the manic phase of bipolar disorder should not use this medication. Care should be taken in patients with malignant lesions in the breast, as this drug may increase prolactin secretion and cause breast development disorders. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so it should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Caution should be exercised when using this drug in hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly, and children should avoid overdose as extrapyramidal symptoms can easily manifest. During the use of this medication, endocrine abnormalities such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia may occur, and patients should be closely monitored. Rarely, extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and anxiety may occur, and if these symptoms arise, the administration should be stopped immediately. Long-term use may lead to tardive dyskinesia, such as involuntary movements around the mouth, so care is needed. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiovascular side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmias may occur, so caution is advised. A rare but serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome has been reported; if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, and changes in consciousness occur, treatment should be stopped immediately, and emergency care should be sought. Allergic reactions such as rash or swelling may occur; use should be discontinued if such symptoms arise. Additionally, symptoms such as flushing, lethargy, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness may occur, and erectile dysfunction may occur rarely. It is advisable to avoid activities that require attention, such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery, while taking this medication. This drug may interact with other medications, especially anticholinergics, narcotic analgesics, digitalis preparations, other benzamide drugs, psychiatric medications, QT interval prolonging drugs, and drugs causing electrolyte disturbances, so caution is advised. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding as it may pose risks to the fetus or newborn. The elderly should be cautious, as renal function may decline, leading to prolonged retention of the drug in the body, necessitating dose adjustments and monitoring for side effects. Finally, this drug may mask vomiting symptoms caused by other conditions due to its antiemetic effect, so careful monitoring of symptom changes is essential.
