This medication improves symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduces an enlarged prostate, and improves urine flow. It also helps lower the frequency of acute urinary retention, preventing sudden difficulties in urination. Additionally, it reduces the necessity for surgeries such as transurethral resection of the prostate, helping patients to live more comfortably. This drug is used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

How to take

Adult dose

As finasteride, take 5 mg orally once a day regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve, a minimum of 6 months of treatment is required.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in children or women. Especially, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not touch the broken pieces of this medication, as it is coated under normal conditions preventing direct contact with the active ingredient. During use, mood changes or mental health issues such as depression may occur, and consultation with healthcare professionals should be sought immediately if such symptoms appear. Patients with allergies to this drug or its components, women, children, and those with certain genetic lactose-related conditions should not take this medication. Caution is required for patients with liver function problems. Generally, this medication has good tolerability, but side effects related to sexual function may occur, and rarely symptoms such as breast enlargement or rash have been reported. There have been reports of the potential occurrence of male breast cancer with long-term use; however, a definitive correlation has not yet been established.
