View approved original text

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a common condition in men after middle age, causing urinary disorders such as frequent urination or difficulty urinating due to the enlargement of the prostate. This medication alleviates these symptoms, improves urine flow, and helps facilitate urination. It is used so that patients can reduce discomfort during urination and enjoy a more comfortable life.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer tamsulosin hydrochloride 0.2 mg orally once daily after a meal. Swallow this medicine whole; do not crush or chew it. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components, patients with orthostatic hypotension, patients with severely impaired liver function, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this medication. Additionally, patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly patients, and patients taking PDE5 inhibitors, CYP3A4 inhibitors, or antihypertensive drugs should use this medication with caution. In particular, patients who are currently taking alpha-1 blockers or have a history of urinary syncope should receive careful administration only when necessary. When using this medication, symptoms associated with blood pressure drop, such as syncope or loss of consciousness, may occur, so symptoms must be carefully monitored, and if problems arise, administration should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Various side effects such as dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, blood pressure drops, arrhythmias, skin rashes, indigestion, liver function abnormalities, etc. may occur, so consultations with a physician should be made if any unusual symptoms are present. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively; therefore, the dosage must be adhered to precisely, and care should be taken especially when standing as blood pressure may drop suddenly. This medication is for symptom relief rather than causal treatment, so other treatment options should be considered if it is not effective. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur, so caution is advised when driving or performing hazardous tasks. This medication requires caution for patients with sulfonamide allergy and should not be used in pregnant or nursing women and children under 18 years of age. For elderly patients, consideration of kidney function decline is necessary, starting from a lower dose and monitoring the course of treatment. When taking, remove from PTP packaging and swallow whole; do not chew or open the capsule, and take care not to lie down and take without water. This medication may interact with other antihypertensive drugs, PDE5 inhibitors, CYP3A4 inhibitors, etc., so it is recommended to consult with a physician when taking together. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container.
