This medication is used as a peritoneal dialysis solution for patients with acute and chronic renal failure. It can also help detoxify drug overdoses that do not respond to other treatments through the dialysis material. It is prescribed to reduce discomfort caused by low pH when using dialysis solution composed solely of lactate. Therefore, this medicine aids in the dialysis treatment of patients with renal failure and in detoxifying drug overdoses.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Typically, for adults, 1.5 to 2.5L is injected into the abdominal cavity, left to dwell for 4 to 8 hours, and drained 3 to 5 times a day. The solution is used for dialysis treatment injected into the abdominal cavity. The treating physician should adjust the treatment method, number of procedures, exchange volume, dialysis time, and duration according to the patient's condition. Dosage varies based on body size, and the frequency of exchanges is managed through biochemical and volume control.

Precautions

This solution is for peritoneal dialysis; during treatment, infections such as peritonitis may occur, so it should always be used in a clean and sterile environment. If peritoneal dialysis is suddenly discontinued, waste products may accumulate in the body, and excessive fluid buildup can pose a life-threatening risk, so treatment should always be stopped according to a doctor's instructions. This medicine should not be used in patients with specific conditions, such as those with diaphragmatic defects, severe abdominal inflammation or surgical history, bleeding tendencies, or suspected lactate metabolism disorders. Moreover, patients on digitoxin therapy, those suspected of having carbohydrate metabolism disorders, patients using artificial anus, or those on diuretics should regularly check electrolyte levels and blood sugar when using this medicine. When using this medication, various adverse reactions such as abdominal pain, bleeding, symptoms of peritonitis, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic abnormalities, and respiratory distress may occur, so if symptoms arise, immediate consultation with medical personnel is required. The dialysis solution must be used while sealed in the provided container, and should not be used if the packaging is damaged or if the solution is cloudy or contains foreign substances. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. In children, the dosage of the dialysis solution should be adjusted according to age and weight, and in the elderly, the possibility of hernia should be considered prior to peritoneal dialysis. Overdose may result in dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities, hyperglycemia, etc., so dialysis exchanges should be performed at appropriate frequencies and dosages, and immediate medical attention should be sought in case of unusual symptoms. Peritoneal dialysis treatment must always be initiated under medical supervision, and even when self-administering, it should be done only after adequate training, with regular monitoring of weight and blood tests to maintain thorough management of the body's condition.
