This medication is used to lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension and to relieve symptoms of myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina and variant angina.

How to take

Adult dose

Amlodipine should be administered orally at a dose of 5 mg once daily. If symptoms do not improve within 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased based on the patient's response, up to a maximum of 10 mg per day. Adjust accordingly based on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this medicine or similar components, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients in cardiogenic shock, those with severe heart valve issues, unstable angina patients, patients who have experienced a myocardial infarction within the last month, patients with severely impaired liver function, and severely hypotensive patients should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication should be used cautiously in patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly individuals, patients with acute heart failure, patients with extremely high blood pressure in urgent situations, patients with mildly to moderately impaired liver function, patients with limited left ventricular function, those with weak heart function, and diabetic patients. There may be various side effects when taking this medication. Common side effects include flushing and warmth in the face, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle swelling. Rarely reported side effects include dry mouth or excessive sweating, significantly low blood pressure or fainting, neurological symptoms, digestive disorders, skin rashes, and liver function abnormalities. If such symptoms occur, the patient should consult healthcare personnel for appropriate measures. Stopping this medication suddenly can worsen symptoms; therefore, it should be tapered off gradually under the guidance of a physician, and patients should be careful not to stop taking it arbitrarily. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are not recommended to use this medication as its safety has not been established. Women of childbearing potential must consult before taking it. This medication may interact with other medications, so those currently taking other drugs must inform healthcare personnel. In particular, taking it with grapefruit juice may increase its effectiveness, so it is advisable to avoid this combination. Elderly patients may experience elevated blood levels and prolonged effects of this medication, so it should be initiated at a lower dose and used with close monitoring. In cases of overdose, significantly low blood pressure and cardiac function impairment may occur, necessitating immediate medical treatment. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
