Improvement of chronic arterial occlusive disease (ulcer, pain, etc.) and prevention of recurrence of cerebral infarction
This medication is used to improve ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and coldness associated with chronic arterial occlusive diseases, for example, Buerger's disease, occlusive arterial sclerosis, and diabetic peripheral vascular disease. It is also effective in preventing recurrence after cerebral infarction, especially in cases not associated with cardiac cerebral embolism. Therefore, it helps relieve symptoms related to blood circulation disorders and prevent the recurrence of cerebral infarction.
As cilostazol, the usual adult dose is 100 mg taken orally twice a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to age and symptoms.
This medication may increase heart rate, which could pose a risk of angina symptoms, so angina symptoms such as chest pain should be carefully monitored. Patients at risk of bleeding or with a predisposition to bleeding, patients with congestive heart failure, patients who have had an allergic reaction to this medication, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not be administered this medication. Patients taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, women who are menstruating, patients with coronary artery stenosis, patients with severe renal failure or liver failure, diabetic patients, patients with high blood pressure, patients with heart rhythm disorders, and the elderly should use this medication cautiously. This medication can cause serious side effects, including bleeding, reduction of blood cells, interstitial pneumonia, heart problems, and jaundice, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, treatment should be stopped immediately and a doctor's advice should be sought. Various side effects such as skin rash, headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal disorders, muscle pain, cough, and changes in blood pressure have been reported, so symptoms should be carefully monitored when they occur. In patients with cerebral infarction, administration should begin after symptoms have stabilized, and patients with poorly controlled blood pressure should be especially cautious. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness may occur. This medication is metabolized in the liver; thus, when taken with certain drugs, blood concentrations may rise, or bleeding risks may increase, so consultation with a physician is necessary when combining treatments, and regular blood coagulation tests should be conducted. Pregnant and nursing mothers should avoid using this medication, and its safety in children and neonates has not been established.
