Thus, it is used to relieve symptoms of urinary disorders due to benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Adults: Administer 0.2 mg of tamsulosin hydrochloride once daily after a meal. This medicine must be swallowed whole and must not be crushed or chewed. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, those who have experienced allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not take it. Also, patients with orthostatic hypotension may see an exacerbation of symptoms, so caution is advised. Patients with severely impaired liver function may have increased drug concentrations in the blood, and thus should avoid use. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. This product contains lactose; therefore, patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should refrain from taking it. Patients with severely reduced kidney function or the elderly should be more cautious when using this medication. Additionally, patients taking certain medications such as PDE5 inhibitors, CYP3A4 inhibitors, or antihypertensives may experience interactions with this drug, so they should be careful. Particularly, patients taking alpha1-blockers should generally avoid this medication but may use it cautiously when absolutely necessary. Symptoms such as syncope or loss of consciousness may occur during treatment, and immediate medical attention is necessary if such symptoms arise. Various side effects such as dizziness, headache, drowsiness, low blood pressure, palpitations, arrhythmias, rash, and itching may occur; any unusual symptoms should be reported. Changes in liver function or symptoms of jaundice may be observed, so regular monitoring is required. The risk of significantly lowering blood pressure in case of overdose is high, so the dosage must be strictly adhered to. Blood pressure may drop upon standing, so it is important to change positions slowly. Caution is needed for hazardous activities such as high-altitude work or driving due to possible dizziness. Patients with a history of sulfa drug allergies should take caution as allergic reactions may occur when taking this medication. When this drug is taken with other antihypertensives or PDE5 inhibitors, it may cause excessively low blood pressure, so it should be taken under a physician's guidance. Particularly, when combined with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, drug concentrations may increase, raising the risk of side effects, hence co-administration should be avoided or done with caution. The safety of this medication has not been established for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women or in pediatric patients under 18 years of age. For the elderly, treatment should begin with a lower dosage considering renal function, and if there is no effect, consider alternative treatments instead of increasing the dosage. When taking this drug, it should be swallowed whole as packaged, not chewed or opened, to maintain the gradual release form characteristic of extended-release products. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
