This medication is used to control hypertension and treat myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina due to fixed occlusion of the coronary arteries and variant angina caused by vasospasm.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5 mg orally once daily as amlodipine, and if symptoms do not improve within 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily according to the patient's response. Adjust dosage appropriately based on symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this medication or its ingredients, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, patients with cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, severe liver dysfunction, or hypotension should not take this drug. Furthermore, it should be administered with caution to patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly patients, those with acute heart failure, severe hypertension crises, mild to moderate liver dysfunction, left ventricular functional impairment, low cardiac reserve, or diabetes. This medication is generally well tolerated, but during use, symptoms such as facial flushing, warmth, fatigue, edema, palpitations, dizziness, headaches, nausea, drowsiness, and ankle swelling may occur. Rarely, hypotension, syncope, sensory disturbances, erectile dysfunction, skin rashes, liver function disturbances, or allergic reactions may occur; any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Discontinuation of this medication suddenly may worsen symptoms, so dosage should be reduced slowly according to a doctor's guidance. Adequate water should be taken while on this medication, and caution is advised when driving or operating dangerous machinery due to potential dizziness or drowsiness. This medication may interact with specific drugs, so if taking other medications, it is essential to inform healthcare professionals, especially as taking it with grapefruit juice may increase blood pressure-lowering effects, thus should be avoided. During pregnancy or lactation, as safety has not been established, use should be avoided, and its use in children is not recommended due to the lack of confirmed safety and efficacy. Elderly patients may experience elevated serum concentrations of this medication, so it should be started at a low dosage and administered cautiously. In case of overdose, severe hypotension and cardiac issues may arise, requiring immediate emergency care.
