Effectively improves symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and urinary flow, reduces surgical necessity
This medication improves the symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduces the enlarged prostate tissue, and helps facilitate urine flow. It also decreases the frequency of acute urinary retention, reducing discomfort. This reduces the need for surgeries such as transurethral resection of the prostate or prostatectomy, thereby alleviating the treatment burden for patients. It effectively addresses prostate-related issues for patients.
Administer 5 mg of finasteride orally once daily, regardless of meals. Even if symptoms improve, a minimum treatment period of 6 months is required.
This medication should not be used in children or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant must not handle broken pieces of this medicine, as it may pose a risk to a male fetus. During the course of taking this medication, symptoms of depression or mood changes may occur; if any mental changes arise, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with allergic reactions or liver function issues should exercise caution when taking this medication. Generally, the side effects are minor and temporary; however, there have been reports of issues related to sexual function, so these should be reported to a healthcare professional if they occur. Long-term use has been associated with reports of male breast cancer, though a direct correlation with this medication is not clear. This medication may slightly increase the risk of prostate cancer, so it should be taken under regular medical supervision and in accordance with a physician's guidance. Interactions with other medications are relatively low; however, if other medications are being taken, inform the healthcare professional without fail. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication, and special care should be taken if exposed during pregnancy, as it can affect a male fetus. Safety for pediatric use has not been established, hence it should not be administered to children. Elderly patients can generally use this medication without specific dose adjustment, but regular health status checks are needed. This medication can lower prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, so caution is needed when interpreting PSA test results. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, but adhering to the recommended dosage is important. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and keeping it in its original container helps maintain quality.
