Short-term adjunctive treatment for weight loss in exogenous obesity
This medication is used to assist weight loss in patients with exogenous obesity who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher and do not respond effectively to appropriate dietary and exercise regimens, or in patients who have a BMI of 27 or higher with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. It is utilized as a short-term adjunct therapy alongside basic treatments for weight loss including exercise, behavioral modification, and calorie restriction. It should specifically be used alone and not in combination with other appetite suppressants. The body mass index is calculated by dividing weight (kg) by the square of height (m). This medication helps resolve obesity and contributes to the improvement of the patient’s health.
Adults: Take 37.5 mg of phentermine hydrochloride orally once daily before breakfast or 1–2 hours after breakfast. Use the lowest effective dose, adjusting it individually to achieve an adequate response. For some patients, 18.75 mg once daily may be appropriate; in some cases, 18.75 mg twice daily may be preferable. Avoid taking this medicine late at night, as it may cause insomnia. This medicine should be administered for a short period (up to 4 weeks). However, to reduce inappropriate use and the risks associated with this medicine, treatment may be continued if the patient achieves satisfactory weight loss within the first 4 weeks (a weight loss of at least 1.8 kg, or weight loss considered satisfactory by both the physician and the patient).
This medication should not be used in conjunction with other appetite suppressants and should only be used for a limited duration. The combination of this medication with other weight loss drugs is not recommended as safety and efficacy have not been established. If symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, fainting, or limb swelling occur, it is essential to notify a doctor immediately, and the use of the drug should be stopped. There may be a risk associated with cardiac valve disease, so prolonged high-dose use or combination with other appetite suppressants should be avoided. Patients with advanced atherosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, severe hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma should not use this medication. Patients who are mentally unstable or who have a history of substance abuse should also avoid this medication. Do not administer to children under 16 years of age and to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Patients with diabetes may need to adjust insulin dosage while taking this medication, so caution is advised. In cases of overdose, severe anxiety, coma, seizures, abnormal blood pressure, vomiting, and other symptoms may appear, necessitating immediate medical attention. Caution should be taken as this medication may cause dangerous interactions when taken with alcohol. This medication may lead to psychological dependence, so it should be taken exactly as directed by a physician.
