Precautions

This medication is a thyroid hormone preparation and should not be used by individuals with normal thyroid function for weight loss purposes. In particular, serious side effects can occur when taken together with sympathomimetic agents that have appetite-suppressing effects, which can be very dangerous. It should not be administered to patients with heart problems, such as those with acute myocardial infarction, myocarditis, severe angina, or heart failure accompanied by tachycardia. Additionally, it should not be used by patients with hyperthyroidism, adrenal insufficiency before treatment, thyroid toxicity, or any allergies to this medication. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should also not take this medication. Patients with cardiovascular diseases, adrenal cortical insufficiency, pituitary insufficiency, or diabetes should use this medication cautiously. Particularly, elderly patients and those with severe or long-term hypothyroidism should take it carefully. Overdosing on this medication may lead to symptoms such as increased or irregular heart rate, insomnia, headaches, dizziness, sweating, nervous irritability, and anxiety. Also, gastrointestinal disturbances, muscle pain, weight loss, and skin rash may occur, so if symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately and consult with healthcare professionals. Patients with hypothyroidism should start with a low dose and gradually increase it, while diabetic patients should closely monitor their blood glucose levels. In those with cardiovascular diseases, if chest pain or worsening symptoms occur, dosage adjustments are necessary. This medication may interact with various other drugs, so caution is needed when taken with anticoagulants, sympathomimetics, cardiotonics, hypoglycemic drugs, antacids, anticonvulsants, oral contraceptives, and beta-blockers. In particular, adjustments to the intervals or dosages may be required, so it is essential to discuss this with healthcare professionals. It is advisable not to discontinue treatment during pregnancy and to use it cautiously while breastfeeding. In children, hypothyroidism should be diagnosed and treated early, as overtreatment can negatively affect growth, necessitating appropriate dosage adjustments. Elderly patients should start with a lower dose and gradually increase it due to decreased physical function, ensuring heart stress is minimized. This medication may affect thyroid function test results, so it is crucial to inform the healthcare professional that you are taking it during testing, and discuss testing methods with them. In case of overdose, emergency measures such as inducing vomiting, gastric lavage, and administering absorption inhibitors are necessary, and if cardiac symptoms or neurological symptoms occur, immediate emergency treatment must be sought.
