People allergic to or hypersensitive to propylene glycol, included in this medication, should also be cautious. Using this medication can lead to skin infections and may cause symptoms like rashes, itching, redness, or skin irritation. If these symptoms occur, use should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. Prolonged use may result in side effects such as skin thinning or vascular dilation, so caution is necessary. If absorbed systemically, serious side effects such as adrenal suppression, weight gain, elevated blood sugar, hypertension, osteoporosis, cataracts, and glaucoma may occur; therefore, regular testing is required with widespread or prolonged use. Care should be taken if used around the eyes, as it may cause increased intraocular pressure or glaucoma. It is principle to avoid using this medication for eczema or dermatitis accompanied by skin infections; appropriate antibiotics or antifungals should be used in case of an infection. Use should be discontinued as soon as symptoms improve, and the treatment duration is typically limited to within 7 days. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication only when necessary, during the shortest duration, and at the lowest effective dose considering risks to the fetus or infant. In particular, avoid applying this medication to the breast area during breastfeeding. For children, the risk of side effects such as adrenal suppression is higher, so prolonged use should be avoided, especially in sealed areas like those covered by diapers. Elderly patients are at increased risk of side effects, thus should be monitored closely during high or prolonged use. Excessive use may lead to systemic side effects; hence, the correct dosage and administration instructed by the physician must be followed. This medication should not be used for ophthalmic purposes and should not be applied to the skin immediately after makeup or shaving for purposes other than treatment. If using occlusive dressings, they should be done under medical supervision and the area should be kept clean before application to reduce infection risk.
