(Infection) Treatment of various bacterial infections, (Ophthalmic disorders) Improvement of eye inflammation and trauma
This medication is effective for the treatment of various infections caused by tobramycin-sensitive organisms. This includes staphylococci such as Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis, as well as Group A β-hemolytic streptococci, non-hemolytic streptococci, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is also used to treat infections caused by various gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Furthermore, it applies to inflammation of the eye and various ophthalmic diseases that respond to steroids, such as superficial bacterial infections and inflammation of the conjunctiva, cornea, anterior segment of the eye, chronic anterior uveitis, and corneal damage. This medication helps alleviate inflammation around the eyelids and eye and treat infections, contributing to the improvement of patients' symptoms.
Administer 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac every 4-6 hours. For the initial 24-48 hours, instill 1-2 drops every 2 hours, and gradually reduce the dosage as symptoms improve. Do not discontinue prematurely.
This medication should not be used in patients with specific viral eye diseases, conjunctivitis, ocular tuberculosis, or fungal eye diseases. Additionally, individuals with allergies to this medication, children, and nursing women should avoid its use. It is important to be cautious of local side effects such as eyelid itching, swelling, and conjunctival hyperemia when using this medication. Serious eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and vision impairment may occur, so consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary if symptoms arise. When used with other aminoglycoside antibiotics, careful monitoring of blood levels is required, and administration should be discontinued if side effects occur. In the case of acute infection in the eye, the steroid component may conceal or worsen the infection, thus caution is advised. Long-term use may present risks of corneal fungal infection or secondary bacterial infection, necessitating immediate medical attention if symptoms worsen. Symptoms such as keratitis, eye swelling, itching, and increased tearing may occur from excessive use; therefore, the prescribed dosage must be followed. Rarely, visual disturbances such as blurred vision may occur, and consultation with a specialist is required if such symptoms develop. Long-term use may promote the growth of resistant pathogens, hence regular observation is necessary. If infected with varicella or measles while using this medication, serious complications may arise, so prior medical history and vaccination status must be confirmed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only after consulting with a doctor, as it may pose risks. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been fully proven, so it is advisable to avoid its use. As it is an eye drop solution, do not inject it directly into the eye; take care to avoid contact between the tip of the container and the eye when using. To minimize contamination risks from shared use, it is safer to use personal containers whenever possible. Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children, avoiding direct sunlight and refraining from transferring to other containers.
