Treatment and prevention of recurrence of gastric and duodenal ulcers, treatment of esophagitis and reflux symptoms, and improvement of gastric lesions in gastritis
This medicine is used for the treatment of active gastric and duodenal ulcers and to prevent the recurrence of duodenal ulcers. It also helps alleviate heartburn symptoms caused by erosive and ulcerative esophagitis or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) diagnosed by endoscopy. In cases of acute exacerbation of acute gastritis or chronic gastritis, it improves lesions such as erosion, bleeding, redness, and swelling of the gastric mucosa, thereby relieving the patient's symptoms. Through these effects, it aids in the recovery from gastrointestinal-related diseases and improves health.
1. Treatment of active gastric or duodenal ulcers Adults: Administer 300mg of nizatidine once daily at bedtime, or administer 150mg orally twice daily, in the morning and evening. Most ulcers heal within 4 weeks, but treatment may be continued for up to 8 weeks if necessary. In cases of active gastric ulcer, malignancy must be ruled out before treatment. 2. Prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers Adults: After healing of a duodenal ulcer, administer 150mg orally once daily at bedtime. Treatment may be continued for up to 1 year; results of longer-term administration are not known. 3. Gastroesophageal reflux disease Adults: Administer 150mg orally twice daily, in the morning and evening. Treatment may be continued for up to 12 weeks. 4. Improvement of gastric mucosal lesions Adults: Administer 150mg orally twice daily, in the morning and evening, for 2 weeks. 5. Dose adjustment for patients with severe renal impairment The dose for patients with renal impairment should be reduced and adjusted as follows. Creatinine clearance Dose Active duodenal ulcer Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) Benign gastric ulcer 20~50 ml/min 150mg daily < 20 ml/min 150mg every other day Maintenance therapy 20~50 ml/min 150mg every other day < 20 ml/min 150mg every 3 days Some elderly patients may have a creatinine clearance below 50mL/min. Based on pharmacokinetic data in patients with renal impairment, the dose should also be reduced according to the degree of renal impairment in these patients. The clinical impact of such dose reductions in patients with renal impairment has not been evaluated.
This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to H2-receptor antagonists. It should be administered with caution in patients with a history of drug hypersensitivity or liver and kidney disorders, and the dosage may need to be reduced or the interval between doses extended in patients with impaired kidney function. If symptoms such as rash, itching, breathing difficulties, or anaphylaxis occur while using this medication, administration should be stopped immediately. Blood tests should be performed to check for possible blood abnormalities such as anemia or leukopenia. Gastrointestinal side effects such as constipation, diarrhea, and nausea may occur. Symptoms of liver dysfunction have also been reported, so regular liver function tests are recommended. Neurological symptoms such as mental confusion, headache, drowsiness, and dizziness may rarely occur, so caution is needed. Irregular heartbeats may occur, so heart conditions should be monitored. Gynecomastia may occur rarely, and erectile dysfunction or decreased libido have been reported. Skin reactions such as rash or urticaria should also be monitored. The risk of side effects of this medication is especially high in elderly patients with impaired kidney function, so kidney function tests should be conducted to determine the appropriate dosage. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should use this medication with caution, considering the potential effects on the fetus or newborn. The safety of this medication in children has not been established, so caution is advised in use. This medication has a low potential for interactions with other drugs; however, caution is needed when used with high-dose aspirin, as it may alter drug concentration in the blood. In the event of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea may occur, and procedures such as inducing vomiting or gastric lavage should be considered if necessary. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so its use should be confirmed to not involve malignancy, and if there is no therapeutic effect, switching to other treatment methods is recommended.
