How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

For mild to moderate infections, instill 1 to 2 drops into the infected area every 4 hours. For severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually reduce the frequency. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and should not be used in patients who have allergic reactions to this medication or similar drugs. As this is an eye medication, side effects such as itching, swelling, redness of the eyelids, conjunctivitis, and temporary burning sensation may occur. If such symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately. Occasionally, there may be sensations of irritation or pain, so caution is necessary. To prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, it is recommended to check the susceptibility of the infecting bacteria and use for only the minimum necessary duration. It is safe to perform skin tests to check for allergic reactions before using the medication. Long-term or repeated use may lead to excessive proliferation of other resistant bacteria, and in such case, the medication should be discontinued and appropriate treatment should be initiated. This medication should not be used in conjunction with certain classes of antibiotics, so caution should be exercised when used with other medications. When used alongside systemic aminoglycoside agents, blood concentration levels must be closely monitored. To prevent the spread of infection, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment. When applying the drug to the eye, temporary blurred vision may occur, so driving or operating machinery should not be done until vision is clear again. Using this medication with anticoagulants may increase the risk of bleeding; hence, blood coagulation status should be frequently checked, and anticoagulant doses adjusted if necessary. While animal studies did not report teratogenic effects during pregnancy, it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and during breastfeeding, it may harm the baby, so nursing should be discontinued or used with careful evaluation of risks and benefits. Overuse may cause inflammation, redness, increased tearing, swelling, and itching in the eyes, so it is essential to monitor blood levels and ensure it does not exceed a certain threshold, with hemodialysis being helpful if needed. This medication must never be injected into the eye. It should be noted that some bacteria in the country have shown resistance to this medication, so use should be cautious considering resistance development.
